Spring Cleaning Ideas

by Gregg Clymer

Spring is here, and that means it could be time to consider spring cleaning. Cleaning is not most people’s favorite pastime, but a few helpful tips can make the process much easier.

Kitchen

  • Water stains can easily be removed from sinks and faucets by rubbing half a lemon over the marks
  • Place a wet dryer sheet on your stove for 15 minutes to easily wipe off burnt-on food
  • To clean your microwave: squeeze the other half of the lemon into 1/2 cup of water, drop the rinds into the mixture, microwave for 3 minutes, and let stand for 5. Easily wipe residue out your microwave!

Bathroom

  • To remove showerhead build-up: Fill a bag with white vinegar, wrap it around the showerhead with a rubber band, and let sit overnight.
  • To clean your toilet: Drop 2 antacid tablets in the bowl, let dissolve for 20 minutes, and scrub.
  • Don’t forget to clean the ceiling: fill a mop bucket with equal parts water and white vinegar and use to scrub the ceiling

Living Room

  • Streak-free windows: Mix 1/4 cup white vinegar, 2 cups of water, 2 teaspoons of liquid soap, and place in a spray bottle. Spray onto the glass and wipe with newspaper.
  • Remove smudges from your TV using coffee filters
  • Before cleaning your couch or rugs, make sure to read the labels to avoid using the incorrect cleaner
  • Use a window squeegee to get pet hair out of rugs

Organizing

  • Instead of folding clothing horizontally, stack it vertically in the drawers
  • Use velcro strips to keep drawer organizers in place
  • Recycle old socks for dusting mitts

Spring cleaning is a great way to push the “reset” button on your home. Spring is also a busy time in the real estate market. If spring cleaning won’t get you the home you want, maybe it’s time to consider a move. Check out homes on the market near you here!
